Wall sized colored pencil, baby. This is Day 3.
I should probably be getting to his missing arm soon. The reason it’s missing is I was hoping he’d go on a door and his arm is sticking out. Now I’m thinking it might be fun to put things in his hand, like a martini glass. So, I might make it too big for a door and the buyer can cut off the arm if necessary.
Why didn’t I draw the Hold the Door scene? Well, it’s not a flattering picture of his face, I couldn’t see the image well, his feet are missing, the hands grabbing him look lame, the ivy around him isn’t that great. It wouldn’t be as fun to try to draw.
Experience. I know what will look good. I need detail and a feeling I want to work with.
For example, sad faces might make me sad.
Always consider your audience. People don’t want a sad Hodor at their party.
Needless to say, non GoT fans would get it even less if it was a huge sad guy covered in fur with skeletons grabbing him. This way, he’s just an angry Nord in battle when I post progress pics.
